Learning

As my life continues to unfold before me, these are lessons I have learnt and keep learning. The knowledge journey for me does not end and so should yours.

Peace is not the absence of war or strife. It is the stillness of the heart in tumultuous times.
Courage is not the absence of fear it is the overriding desire not to conform to the expectations of your weaknesses.
Strength is not the size of your muscle mass. Its your ability to show your real self without masking your deficiencies.
Wisdom is no longer the result of gray . But the result of learning from experiences and making “flash cards” of the lessons so others can learn too.
Obedience is neither servitude nor acting without questioning. It is rather acting based on a conviction that you are free and so have a right to explanations when you are conflicted.
Parenting is not having children. Its being responsible enough to have children and raise them accordingly, to be your lasting legacy for good.
Marriage is not a ceremony. Its a “work in progress” that lasts a lifetime.
An adolescent is not a rebel. Rather he/she is a person constantly shouting ” I want to find me, please help”.
Success is not an event. It is everyday that you find out you have moved beyond where you were the day before.
Failure is inevitable. Except you want to return to your maker like an unwrapped gift box, you must fail so you can succeed.
The feminine gender does not mean weakness. It means a partaker in creation and a reservoir of strength beyond compare.
Tears do not come from the eyes. They come from the heart when they are genuine.
Life is short. But our ideas and actions are immortal.
Whether because of the “big bang” or creation, we are here to change this world for the better. So why not start with you.

Learning from Life

After being alive a couple of years life will teach you a few things that nothing else can teach you. These are a few that I have learnt.

Life is not fair, and it knows so stop reminding it.

Hardwork doesn’t always pay off, but it soothes the conscience.

There are so many short cuts to success but none to permanent success.

If you are a patient dog you might go “boneless”.

The strong don’t always win and the weak don’t always lose a fight.

To fail to plan is to plan to fail, reality check; don’t live a regimented life. Its frustrating to those around you who care.

The devil is not ugly and doesn’t have horns. It is the most beautiful thing you will ever see.

Nothing is ever free, you get to pay for it in ways you haven’t imagined yet.

Don’t mock a man on a losing streak. His luck can change and instantly his destiny too.

Gambling is not “addictive”, its our hope that we may beat the system thats addictive.

Be a good listener, you will hear all you need to live better from the lips of others.

Talk less in a gathering, the loquacious fellow is never taken too seriously even when he is.

Everybody lies, just don’t make lying your way of life and don’t defend yourself when caught.

Marry your friend if you can, if you can’t then make your spouse your friend.

Choice is your greatest asset , with it you can break down walls or build barricades.

Don’t expect people to always believe in you, and don’t judge them when they don’t.

Don’t wait for somebody to motivate you, motivate yourself always and you will never run out of gas.

Life is short……enjoy every bit of it……as often as you can.

The Scribbler

In the course of my scribbling and learning how to write not just for myself but for others; I have come to understand somethings about a writer. I have understood that being original is her strongest suit. She doesnt try to copy peoples ideas or even ascribe peoples work to herself. The writer sees life different from others. Where the average person sees dejection and rejection she sees a story to be told, an opportunity to connect with the world. When she puts pen to paper, she pours her heart into it. She gives life to her work and that is the essence that draws readers to her. She has an active imagination never dampened by moods or circumstances, for her writing is where she lives. And though she loves you very much, you know from day one that you will always compete for attention with her literary works.

I am still far from the writer I wish to be but am learning everyday about how to be better. Sometimes my cup of inspiration is full and overflowing and other times not so full. Today this poem by Judith Pordon gives an insight into how the writer sees the tools of her work. Its titled Blank Beauty.

BLANK BEAUTY

Beautiful blank pages

kiss our

imaginations

with backgrounds

that demand precision.

Our black letters cross

on tightrope lines,

curving

without wavering

across deep, invisible currents.

These beautiful blank pages

are promises of our

reflections.

Our gentlest strokes

of darkness upon light.
